Graduation: a word that signifies a milestone in every student’s academic career. For some, it is a commemoration of success and the end of the scholastic level of education. For others, graduation is a welcoming ritual to a brand new horizon of enlightenment. And for a select few, it is just a simple reminder to strive for academic excellence.
On the 3rd of April 2010, the 20th ACCA/CAT Graduation Ceremony was held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre right here in Bandar Sunway. The ceremony was held in recognition of graduates of the highly acclaimed professional accounting programmes, ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and CAT (Certified Accounting Technician) as well as other achievements by students of the programmes such as Sunway-TES’s winning contingent of the Multimedia University Inter-varsity Accounting Quiz 2010 and prizewinners of the most recent exam sittings.
Gracing the event were most notably Ms. Elizabeth Lee, Executive Director of Sunway College and Mr. Teo Ee Sing, founder and executive director of Sunway-TES.
The turnout for the 20th Graduation was an astonishing 700 people, perhaps the best turnout for such an event in recent years.
It was a momentous occasion where former ACCA students gathered and reunited with their former classmates and lecturers and where their juniors, the CAT graduates were given a small taste of what’s to come in the future when they themselves graduate from their respective programs.
As per Sunway-TES’s excellent track record, this batch of graduates and students alike have once again managed to rise above expectations and clinch the national or world prizes for a 9 out of 10 CAT papers and 9 out of 14 ACCA papers. To add, Sunway-TES has also managed to uphold their ‘Platinum Approved Learning Partner’ Status by securing internal pass rates well exceeding global pass rates.
Presenting the accolades were distinguished academic figures such as Professor Robert Bignall (Vice-Chancellor of Sunway College) and Ms. Lee herself.
Another major highlight of this event was the presentation of the Ernst and Young Best Graduating ACCA Student Award. The award was presented to Andrea Mah Jia Yi by a Partner of Ernst and Young herself, Cik Habibah Abdul acknowledging extraordinary personal and professional achievements of the recipient.
Parents and families were among the elated members of the crowd who turned up to give support to all the students who put in countless hours and efforts to making it through. The SAGC also made a presence at the graduation this time by delivering an inspirational address to graduates and students.
Not forgetting that plenty of credit goes to the first-class faculty of lecturers of Sunway-TES and administrative staffs as none of the students would have made it through without the undying dedication and persistence displayed by them that carried the students through the grueling course.
In summation, the graduation not only served as a rite of passage for students but also yet another bookmark in a, no doubt, long and successful legacy of achievements. This was not first time such levels of excellence were reached by students, lecturers and Sunway-TES itself, but this will definitely not be the last. Here’s to another grand semester, Sunway-TES!
